Restoring Dignity, One Hospital Bill at a Time

July 2025

When we travelled to Nigeria, our hearts carried a quiet burden—to visit a local hospital and find families who were struggling to pay their medical bills. We wanted to meet real people, hear their stories, and, if possible, offer hope where it was most needed.

We made our way to Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital, a place where so many come in desperation, believing for healing and restoration. Upon arriving, we were warmly received by two compassionate members of the Social Welfare Department—Mrs Aribatise and Mr Badmus. They immediately understood our mission and, with genuine care, helped us identify patients in urgent need of support.

One of the first stories that touched us deeply was that of a fragile baby, born prematurely and fighting to survive in an incubator. The child's mother, who battles epilepsy, was unable to stay by the baby’s side, and the elderly father had little means to help. The responsibility had fallen on the baby’s grandmother, who was taking out loans to keep up with the rising hospital bills. The total cost for the baby’s care had reached ₦437,500, and it was a mountain the family simply could not climb alone. We were humbled to step in and fully cover the amount—lifting that financial burden from their shoulders and giving the baby a chance to thrive without further delay.

Not long after, we learned of a young woman who had given birth safely and had been medically discharged. While she had been medically discharged, she remained in the hospital—unable to go home simply because she couldn’t settle her ₦222,020 hospital bill. She had just experienced the miracle of motherhood, the moment that should’ve been filled with joy and new beginnings had become a time of anxiety and shame. We covered the outstanding cost so she could walk out of the hospital with her baby in her arms and her dignity intact.

Finally, we met a patient who was in need of urgent prescription medication but couldn’t afford to buy it. The required medication amounted to ₦74,700, and time was critical. Without hesitation, we took care of the cost, ensuring the treatment wouldn’t be delayed another day.

These were not just transactions; they were moments of transformation. The weight of medical debt can be overwhelming, especially when families are already navigating pain, grief, or fear. But in those moments—through your support and the grace of God—we had the privilege of becoming the answer to someone’s silent prayer.

In total, we paid ₦734,220 across three cases—each one unique, each one deserving, and each one a powerful reminder of why The Tolaoluwa Foundation exists. These weren’t just numbers on receipts; they were lives changed, stress lifted, and hope restored.

We’re so grateful to Mrs Aribatise and Mr Badmus, whose compassion and commitment ensured we could carry out our mission with care and accuracy. Their insight led us directly to those most in need, and their partnership helped make our time at Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital one we’ll never forget.
